A LITTLE PIECE OF WONDERLAND FINDS ITS WAY TO WREA HEAD

Local photographer to the stars, Sarahphotogirl

This week a photograph featuring Wrea Head’s famous wood paneled halls is taking pride of place alongside images of Rock Stars at an exhibition showcasing the work of Scarborough based photographer Sarahphotogirl. The photographs are appearing at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, North Yorkshire from 31st March until the 6th May and represent the photographer’s biggest exhibition to date.

A collection of forty images are on display. Most of these will be from Sarah’s Rock Portraits portfolio but the exhibition will also feature some brand new images not even seen on Flickr.

Sarah, better known by her alter ego Sarahphotogirl, is a self taught photographer most widely known for her rock star portraits. Over the past few years she has photographed the who’s who of of the music industry and as a result now has a portfolio brimming with the eclectic personalities of everyone from Paul Weller, Blur and The Kaiser Chiefs to Pete Doherty, the Sugababes and Charlotte Church. Her work has appeared in a wide range of magazines including the NME, Q and Mojo and for many years she has been busy behind the lens as AOL’s official sessions photographer.

Asked about the inspiration for the Wrea Head composition Sarah said; “I choose the Wrea Head Hotel because it’s just a stunning location. It’s like stepping back in time – and with me being firmly stuck somewhere else in history it’s just perfect for me! I have a thing for library’s and for wood paneling and Wrea Head has plenty of both. I’d seen Wrea Head Country House once before and it just seemed the ideal location. As for Alice: I wanted to do my take on several of my favourite books and this is the first one I choose. I think because it was such a challenge, but also because illustration wise there is so much scope for the imagination. And I bet you didn’t know Alice was a ginger now did you?”
